President Voice

FOUNDER OF SWWS

The time we are living in has been witnessing phenomenal confrontations with the perpetual paradoxes of development. On the one hand there is rapid industrialization and sky-rocketing growth of multinational corporate houses and on the other the larger majority in almost all developing economies is languishing amidst abject poverty, malnourishment, hunger, diseases and death. We know there are islands of prosperity in the sea of poverty. So development in the context of SWWS is reduction in the poverty levels of the masses and overall improvement in the socio economic conditions of the poorest of the poor masses resulting in improvement in health, education, women empowerment and decision making power in the hands of the marginalized communities.

Since inception SWWS has been making efforts to address the gross impoverishment and large scale marginalization among the tribal population in the habitations encompassed by the remote and hilly tracts of Gajapati district in the southern part of Odisha. Our thrust was focused on spearheading solutions that leave a lasting impression on the minds and imagination of the persons who have been marginalized by the wraths of lopsided development keeping the larger interest of the society. It is really heartening that some of our core endeavors concerning safe drinking water, hygiene, sanitation, health, education and empowerment of tribal women have been acclaimed among the target population for adaptability and up-scaling .

The efforts made by SWWS at the micro level made significant positive changes in the communities we work with. These micro level interventions show the path for the macro level planners and thinkers to emulate and upscale for larger benefit of the society.

While placing our heartfelt gratitude to all our stakeholders, project partners and supporting agencies we pledge our continued commitment for the cause of the underprivileged communities in this part of eastern India. We stand deeply beholden to the esteemed members of our governing body for their unstinted help and support. The laurels for success go definitely to our most deserving field functionaries for their tireless efforts in creating a distinct identity for SWWS. The people centered approach and the empowerment process will be central to the development approach of the organization. We sincerely hope that this annual report will give the erudite readers a panoramic view of our dedicated programme interventions and the outcome level indicators they have achieved.

Yours Sincerely,

D Jagannath Raju
